Our Story

The House of Ophir

A trading company built on an ancient name, an ancient standard, and the conviction that commerce — done with integrity — is one of the most honourable callings a man can answer.

The Name

Why Ophir?

Ophir was not merely a place. It was a promise. In the ancient world, to say a thing came from Ophir was to say it was the finest of its kind — gold so pure it set the standard, almug wood so rare it was used only in the Temple of God and the palace of the king, precious stones that no craftsman could improve upon.

The location of Ophir has never been confirmed. Scholars have placed it in Arabia, in India, in the Horn of Africa, in Zimbabwe. Its mystery is part of its power. It was the edge of the known world — the place you reached only if you were willing to sail further than anyone else, to trust your crew, to read the stars, and to endure the voyage.

We chose this name deliberately. Not as a boast, but as a standard. Every trade we execute, every partnership we form, every shipment we move — it is measured against the Ophir standard. Is it the finest we can do? Is it worthy of the name?

"King Solomon made a fleet of ships at Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom."

1 Kings 9:26

The Company

How OPHIR Came to Be

OPHIR World Trade was founded by men who had spent years inside the commodity trade — watching deals collapse because of poor sourcing, shipments fail because of weak logistics partners, and relationships sour because of a single broken promise. They understood that the industry had a trust problem.

The founding principle was simple: build a trading company that operates the way the great merchant houses of history operated — with deep knowledge of the goods, long-term relationships with partners, and an absolute refusal to compromise on quality or integrity.

We started with a small number of commodity categories and a smaller number of partners. We grew slowly, by design. Every new trade route was opened only when we had the right partner on the ground, the right buyer at the destination, and the right logistics chain to connect them. We did not chase volume. We built trust.

Today, OPHIR operates across six continents, moving commodities in four major categories. Our network of partners spans dozens of countries. But the founding principle has not changed. We are still, at our core, a company that believes the quality of the trade matters as much as the quantity.

What We Stand For

Our Values

Integrity Above All

We do not misrepresent goods, inflate volumes, or obscure terms. Every contract we sign reflects exactly what we intend to deliver. Our word is our bond — and our bond is our business.

"A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight."

Proverbs 11:1

The Long View

We are not interested in a single transaction. We are building trade relationships that last decades. Every decision we make is weighed against its effect on the long-term trust of our partners and clients.

"The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance."

Proverbs 21:5

Mastery of the Trade

We study the commodities we move. We understand the markets, the supply chains, the seasonal patterns, the geopolitical pressures. We do not dabble. We specialise — and we go deep.

"Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings."

Proverbs 22:29

Covenant Partnership

We choose our partners the way Solomon chose his allies — carefully, deliberately, and with a view to mutual benefit over time. A partner of OPHIR is not a vendor. They are a covenant partner.

"Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another."

Proverbs 27:17

Our Purpose

The Mandate

OPHIR World Trade exists to move the commodities that the world needs — with the precision of a master trader, the integrity of a covenant partner, and the ambition of those ancient mariners who set sail for the edge of the known world and came back with gold.

"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established."

Proverbs 16:3
